Collection: Body Awareness

Proprioception is the ability to interpret where your body parts are in relation to each other. It uses information from nerves and sheaths on the muscles and bones to inform about the  position and movement of body through muscles contracting, stretching, bending, straightening, pulling and compressing. This sense, unlike the five more commonly known senses of sight, smell, sound, touch and taste, is an internal sense. Proprioception is largely a sense most of us innately experience but do not quantify, when we do things like open doors, walk through narrow hallways or write with pencils without breaking the tip. It is literally the genesis of the expression “don’t know your own strength”!
